The demonstration on flower painting given by Jane Austin to the Halifax Art Society was well attended and her information on painting was of immense value to our members. Jane used a limited palette of soft natural colours; she chose a photo of Nigella flowers as her inspiration for the painting. Jane put a lot of thought into the planning of the picture before commencing with the actual painting. Choosing the colours and mixing them up beforehand, deciding on format, design and a focal point. Jane started by wetting the paper then dropping on selected colours. When the desired amount of colour had been added, Jane covered the painting with cling film. The paint pooled into the creases. The picture was left to dry and then the cling film removed. The picture was then painted in detail and the end result was a beautiful picture of a group of Nigella flowers. |
