Griff Griffiths gripped

On Thursday 25th March the demonstrator for the Halifax Art Society was Griff Griffiths, who came to show 'Line & Wash' on the subject of Leeds Town Hall.

First he sketched a crowd gathering infront of the building, to add interest to the picture.  He used a black brush pen and reminded us to draw heads all on the same level in our own pictures, even the ones in the distance.  Then he began to paint mauve shadows on the building and we learned that the shadows should be of a complimentary colour.  When the stone building got its yellow colour it was amazing to see the picture gaining great depth.
